Meet Rev. Fr. Chris Mihalopoulos

Reverend Father Chris R. Mihalopoulos, Proestamenos of St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church since January 2019Father Chris was born and raised in the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago. Raised in Palos Hills, IL and attended St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Palos Heights as well as Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Olympia Fields now Homer Glen. Father Chris graduated from Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in Palos Hills and attended the University of Illinois at Chicago in which Father Chris graduated with a double major in Psychology and History. Father Chris’s love was to always work with children and to serve the Church, Father Chris began his studies at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology thanks in part to his spiritual father and other priestly mentors who guided and help Father Chris to follow in our Lord’s foot steps.

Father Chris graduated our Holy Cross Seminary in 2013 and married the love of his life, Presvytera Toni (Poteres) Mihalopoulos on October 6, 2013. Father Chris began his ministry as the lay assistant of Saint Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church in August 2013. Father Chris was ordained to the Holy Diaconate on Sunday, March 16 2014- 2nd Sunday of Great Lent- Sunday of Saint Gregory Palamas by His Grace Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos. Father Chris was then transferred to the community of Saint Demetrios of Chicago on June 1st, 2014. On Sunday, September 26th, 2014 Fr. Chris was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago of Blessed Memory.

Father Chris and Presvytera Toni welcomed their first child, Luke on December 26th, 2014 and their second son, Theodore (Theo) on October 30th, 2017. Their family welcomed their third child, Apostolos (Paul) Nektarios on May 22, 2021.
